Justin Thomas backs Tiger Woods to pick himself for Presidents Cup

Justin Thomas has backed later this year Tiger Woods to name himself as a captains choice for Team USAs Presidents Cup side.
Woods missed out on automatic qualification for the biennial competition although winning a 15th Significant title at the Masters in April, with Brooks Koepka, Justin Thomas, Dustin Johnson, Patrick Cantlay, Xander Schauffele, Webb Simpson, Matt Kuchar and Bryson DeChambeau inhabiting those areas.
The 43-year-old fought injury problems throughout the next half of this year and failed surgery in August to repair knee cartilage damage, with Woods place to return in the Zozo Championship in Japan.
Woods then names his side to be completed by the four wildcard selections next month, using Thomas believing the captain ought to name himself to get Royal Melbourne if fit.
I believe if he is healthy and playing well, I suggest, I will take him, you understand, 100 times out of 100, Thomas said. I think he understands his own body and understands himself well enough to make this choice.
He has asked me about it and Ive told him the identical thing. Its all about wellness, and for anybody. They have to be certain that their game is ready as its not simply something that you do only to perform and their own body is prepared.
If he is going to choose himself, he is just going to take action if hes ready and he is playing well. So I guess well just have to wait and watch.
US Open champion Gary Woodland and recent Ryder Cup players Tony Finau, Patrick Reed, Rickie Fowler along with Phil Mickelson – that has featured in each American group as 1994 – are among the other players searching for a selection, with Thomas having full faith in Woods to pick the ideal players.
He [Tiger] has achieved to all of us on the group about what we think and what we need, Thomas added. It is sort of a different year, but that being said, its not a terrible thing, its a great thing.
It shows how deep our team is and how many amazing players we really have with all the opportunity and the chance of having on the group playing. Hes likely to make the decisions.
He is going to do what is best for the team, not what is best for him or whats best for a single individual man. The strict and just reason of being a captain is to select the top players in the team which we can attempt to try to win the Presidents Cup.
