Odds to Win the NL East:Philadelphia Phillies

Philadelphia Phillies +175

The team that produced the biggest offseason splash the Phillies, by landing celebrity Bryce Harper look to be on going for it this season and beyond, all-in. Exterior of Harper, the Phillies managed to signal OF Andrew McCutchen and trade for SS Jean Segura along with the best catcher on the market in J.T. Realmuto in the Marlins. Last season, the Phillies ranked 30th in strikes and 29th in doubles and were in the bottom half of MLB in homers and RBIs so these additions should definitely proceed the needle to put more runs on the board, fixing what was Philadelphia’s biggest weakness this past year.
On paper, this group should ruin divisional teams with crime and the 1-2 punch of Jake Arrieta and Aaron Nola will give teams fits but they will need to take care of their games. Last season, they were right there to make the playoffs but they ended the season with a 36-40 SU listing in 76 games against NL East teams. I really don’t anticipate a repeat of this record but this division is more competitive than a number of the others in MLB as I do not anticipate a wild-card group to come from the division, and there is a smaller margin for error.
