Tokyo Olympic marathon moved over climate concerns

The International Olympic Committee has announced plans to move the Tokyo 2020 marathon and race walking events across 800 kilometres south of the funding of Japan.
Organisers seem keen to prevent a repeat of what happened in Doha at the World Athletics Championships, where due to sweltering heat and humidity, nearly half the field failed to finish the womens marathon.
The sponsor of the 1972 Winter Olympics, sapporo, could be five to six degrees warmer on average during the Games period of early August and mid-to-late July.
IOC president Thomas Bach said:Trainers wellbeing and well-being are constantly at the center of our worries.
The newest far-reaching proposals to move the marathon and race walking events reveal just how seriously we consider such concerns.
The Olympic Games would be the stage where athletes may provideonce-in-a-lifetime performances, and such measures ensure they have the conditions to give their best.
