It has been a year since the Supreme Court struck down the federal ban on sports gambling, allowing countries to legalize it whenever they wish.
So where do we stand a year? What nations are running a company, and how are they doing? What nations are imminently coming on line? And what countries are on the backpack? We have compiled an extensive look at all 50 states (plus Washington D.C.), together with projected legalization dates for every nation.
To make this as easy as possible, there is an interactive map below, and the text for each state is arranged by the projected year we expect them to come online. Two experts — Daniel Wallach, leader at Wallach Legal, the nation’s first law firm solely dedicated to sports gambling, also Jake Williams, vice president of legal and regulatory affairs for Sportradar — assisted me with all the projections along with sub-categories for every state.
My discussions with Daniel and Jake arrived in the middle of a flurry of new nations legalizing. Since the start of May, six (Illinois, Indiana, Iowa, Montana, New York and Tennessee). Don’t be surprised if 15+ states in complete are accepting stakes from the end of 2019.
That’s enough of a preamble; let us dive into the map and the full list. If you’d like to navigate straight to a state’s department, please click the links below.
